    Difficulty
Moderate to hard (rolling bike, possible summer heat)

    Lac Tremblant swim (1.9 km)

Start from the Lac Tremblant beach, open water, in a mountain setting surrounded by forested slopes. Cool lake water in June, wetsuit usually allowed and recommended. Generally calm water, sighting made easier by the surrounding terrain.

The main challenges are the mass start and the water temperature for anyone not used to northern lakes. A few cold open-water sessions in prep are enough to settle the nerves.

    • Wetsuit usually allowed and recommended
    • 2 to 3 cold open-water sessions before the race
    • Sighting work to hold a straight line

    Rolling Laurentian bike (90 km)

Closed-road course through the Laurentians, rolling and flowing, with steady surges rather than long climbs. The pavement is good and corners are few, which lets you hold a strong rhythm if pacing stays under control.

Strategy: hold steady power and resist the urge to attack every bump. Repeated surges cost you if you take them too hard, and the run punishes a poorly managed bike fast.

    • Surge and false-flat work in prep
    • Simulation rides of 70 to 90 km at 70.3 pace
    • Power meter useful to smooth the effort over the bumps

Out-and-back run to the village (21.1 km)

Out-and-back half marathon, largely shaded, with rolling false-flats and a roaring finish in the Tremblant pedestrian village. The atmosphere of the final stretch, in the heart of the village, is one of the highlights of the race.

Strategy: start controlled over the first kilometers while the legs absorb the bike-to-run transition, then settle into target pace. Summer heat can rise mid-day, manage hydration accordingly.

    • Fueling: 60 to 80 g carbs per hour
    • Increased hydration in heat, ice on the neck at aid stations
    • Bike-to-run brick session in preparation

    Pacing strategy

On a rolling 70.3 like Mont-Tremblant, the classic trap is pushing too hard on the bike because the course allows it. Target power sits around 80 to 85% of threshold for a seasoned athlete, more conservatively for a first-time 70.3 finisher.

On the run, aim for a steady or slightly negative split over the second half. The approaching village delivers a real mental boost over the final kilometers.

    Logistics and practical tips

Mont-Tremblant is about a 1.5-hour drive from Montreal. The pedestrian village concentrates lodging, transition and the finish line, which makes the weekend logistics extremely simple. The race often sells out, register early.

June weather: mild to warm during the day, cool early morning by the lake. Bring layered bike kit and something warm to stay comfortable before the start.
